Why is it important to make a difference?
Biodiversity is so important for the health of our Earth. Having a variety of different species allows our ecosystems to function properly and healthily. Not only does biodiversity help ensure the health of nature, but also helps us to make new scientific discoveries, is aesthetically pleasing, and sometimes helps to support economic industries. Unfortunately, many current issues pose a threat to the biodiversity that is so important for our communities, climate change being one of the main issues.
How can you help in your local community?
-
Recycle and use less plastic
-
Talk to others about climate change and human effects on biodiversity
-
Educate others on biodiversity
-
Volunteer or help organizations that fight to slow the effects of climate change and increase the amount of biodiversity
-
Create bird feeders
-
Plant native plants
-
Look out for invasive species and kill them when possible (like the spotted lantern fly)
-
Clean up your community
-
Limit light pollution
-
Use apps like iNaturalist and Merlin Bird ID to identify different animals
-
Report wildlife sightings to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection
